Mr. Albert M. Matakonis
My name is Al Matakonis, but my students refer to me as "Mr. M." I am the ES teacher for Minersville Area Jr/Sr High School.
I have been a teacher in the Minersville Area School District since August 2005. I hold a Bachelor's Degree from Millersville U. of Pa in Sociology, with a double minor in Psychology and Athletic Coaching. In 2004, I attained my Special Education Teaching certificate (N-12) from Alvernia University, and acquired my Secondary English (7-12) credentials. In Spring 2013, I graduated with a Master's Degree in Urban Education (M. Ed.) from Alvernia University, as well as my Elementary (K-6) Teaching certification.
My educational philosophy and approach to teaching is a rather simple one, and focuses on trusted, positive interaction between teacher and student. Honest communication with students is essential to my approach. Many need encouragement to talk to their teachers, so I emphasize my ability for both formal and informal discussion, as well as my willingness to listen to students, helping them to sort out any problems that they are having. My experience as a teacher is greatly enriched through the open, honest lines of communication established and maintained between student and teacher. I am fortunate to teach in a professional school where I can follow the progress of the students through the program, and sometimes beyond graduation.
I also encourage an open line of communication with the families of the students in our district. I can be
reached through the district email at: amatakonis@battlinminers.com, or by telephone at 570-544-1400 X-2151.

In the event of school closings:
EBridge Cyber-Academy Students:
In the event of school closings due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the students on my roster who are also enrolled in the EBridge Cyber Charter Program, should try to stay up-to-date on all of their assignments according to their individual EBridge calendar. Each student uses this calendar daily with their EBridge coursework. If necessary, additonal time will be given for students to 'catch up' on all assignments when school reopens
9th Grade Study Skills:
Students in my 9th grade study skills classes should study the following terms and definitions, as well as be able to answer the questions regarding Study Skills conatined in the following link.
