The first grade curriculum covers material relevant to the Common Core Standards required by the state.

For the first three weeks, we will be reviewing Kindergarten reading skills and forming a routine for the year.  When we begin our first grade curriculum, the children will work on increasing high-frequency word recognition, building a vocabulary, and focusing on reading fluency and comprehension skills. The Reading and Spelling tests will usually be on a Friday.

The Math curriculum begins with a focus on addition and subtraction to 10 in Topics 1 and 2.  The students will practice addition and subtraction facts as well as learn strategies to solve math problems.  Students will have quizzes throughout the topic and a cumulative test at the end of each topic.

Homework is usually assigned Monday through Thursday.  Please check your child's homework planner and folder nightly.  You can also view nightly homework on this site.

I will use SeeSaw messages or a note in the student planner to keep you informed of classroom behavior as needed.
